Jon & Keith,
Just installed and added Pro license. I am unclear how to get to (monitor) remote logs; e.g. Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering-Manager/Admin or any of the MS Windows App & Service logs.
For the application to be of any use it would need to be able to do this and be easy to setup?

You should be able to access any of the remote event logs by doing the following:
  • Click Open > Open Remote Event Log
  • Enter the computer name of the remote machine
  • Click the Get Logs button and the Event Log drop-down should get populated
  • Select a log from the Event Log drop-down and click OK
One thing to note is that LogFusion must be running under an account that has permissions to open the Event Logs on the remote machine.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

This doesn't work - the only logs that show are: Application, HardwareEvents, Internet Exp, KMS, Security, System and WPS.
It does not show the "Microsoft" sub-folder entry point under Applications and Services Logs section. Just look in a Event Viewer mmc. So not sure how to get to it.

Ah ok! I've tested and confirmed that here as well. We'll look into it and I'll post an update as soon as I have one.

Thanks Pete!

Keith,
Just so you know it doesn't show for local connections either.

Keith,
Any time frame for this getting fixed?

Unfortunately we don't have a time frame for this yet. LogFusion uses .NET 2.0, but it looks like .NET 3.5 is needed to access the Microsoft sub-folder in the Event Logs. So, we're still evaluating our options to see what the best way to go about fixing it up is. I'll be sure to post an update when we have one.

Thanks!

Keith - I am guessing that you haven't moved on this even with the new beta; if so that is disappointing?

Sorry Pete, not yet, but it's still on our list, so I'll be sure to post an update as soon as we make some progress on it.

Thanks!

Hey Pete! We've just released 3.0 Beta 5 (http://www.logfusion.ca/Download/Beta/), and you can now access the new Event Log Channels :)

Thanks!

Keith,
So the next thing is to allow the enumeration or the log channels when you click Get Logs in the remote connection dialog.
Maybe this dialog needs a little redesign?

Hi Pete, you should already be getting a list of lots when you click the "Get Logs" button. Are you not getting that list, or are you having a different issue? Thanks!

Sorry, I was too quick on the draw I missed the specific link in the initial dialog.

No problem. Let me know if you run into any issues with the feature, otherwise I'd say this is case closed! :)

Jon,
Doesn't seem to be working properly at least from a UI design perspective.
First thing - it seems to need a username and password in this dialog - why won't it connect with current credentials? If you assume you don't need the credentials because your current ones are what you need and click get logs or ok you get local logs returned. In most other net apps I use I don't explicitly need to specify credentials unless I want to use different ones. Couldn't you rework this dialog so that the default was current credentials and the with radio button toggle to text boxes for different? Also maybe you need to disable the OK button until you have clicked Get Logs?

Also if I connect correctly and then go to a log entry I can't view any details of the entry; am I doing something wrong?

Are you on a domain where your account has access to the remote machines, or in a workgroup where your usernames/passwords are the same on the remote machines?

Jon,
p.s. this "Also if I connect correctly and then go to a log entry I can't view any details of the entry; am I doing something wrong?" is for the Channel logs. Is this because they don't use "Message" field rather General\Details?

Can you give the new Beta 6 a try, it should work much better for remote logs:
